Stress Corrosion Cracking (10018)
By J.V. Dawson and B. Todd, reprinted from BCIRA Journal, Nov 1987. Wide variations in carbide content can occur at compositions within the type D2 Ni-Resist specification (UNS F43000; nominal nickel content, l 8-22 per cent) and the form of stress corrosion is influenced by it. To minimize the risk of stress corrosion cracking, it is recommended that the iron should be well inoculated, should have relatively high silicon and low chromium contents, and castings should be stress relieved particularly after weld repairs to keep total stress levels to a minimum.
