A great deal has been published on the results of fundamental research, applied research and the industrial development of zinc-alloy electrocoated steels, especially for the automobile manufacturing industry. One hundred-thirty papers, patents and technical articles were methodically reviewed with the objective of obtaining a clear picture, particularly of the relative merits of zinc-nickel and zinc-iron electrocoated steels. Comparison of the published findings under eight headings allowed 12 conclusions, favorable toward zinc-nickel, to be drawn.
